words'n'images... tricky things

Far as I'm concerned those photographers who regard their craft as "art" are taking themselves far too seriously.

Photographs may be creative. Some of them may even appear "artistic". But at the end of the day they're still only images, "created" by pressing a button on a camera.
The photographer may modify (or "process") them afterwards, sure, but that's image manipulation. The original image has still only been created by pressing a button.
And all the bits that go before... selection of subject, composition etc... that's visualisation.
The truly artistic act of creation is achieved in fractions of a second simply by pressing a button.
And that ain't art in my book!

That photography may require skill is another matter entirely. So why some photographers would want to diminish the undoubted skill they exercise in practising their craft by adopting pretensions to "art" beats me.

Would I hang a framed photograph on my wall as decoration? Possibly. But as a photograph... not a work of art!

So if you're one of those people who think photography's art then please just sod off.

I really don't "get" photography as art. Here's my take on it...
Photographs. Simply photographs.
No profound meanings; no meaningful symbolism; no "artistic" aspirations. No "message" even!
Just photographs. For the fun of it. To share what I see...

...and sometimes to document what's happening

And to earn some money of course!
So if you wanna read stories or "meanings" into my pics that's entirely up to you... I certainly don't. They're just transient moments in time, witnessed by me and captured by the wonders of a mechanical device. Visual descriptions of moments rendered, if you like, by that true Artist, Mother Nature, wielding the brushes of Light and Shadow.

And from those who do avail themselves of my amazingly fair-minded approach (or any other reason for that matter), tokens of appreciation are always welcome. Doesn't matter how large or small... every little helps. But large helps more! Especially as I appear to be fighting off extreme malnutrition (not to mention desperate shortage of booze and fags) at the moment. Or something like that. Damn money-orientated society that we seem to be living in!

Enquiries for commercial usage of my work can be made direct to me or to Radical Images, from where selected images are obtainable on either a Royalty-Free or Rights-Managed basis.

I'm available for, and will happily accept, photographic commissions (at incredibly exorbitant rates naturally, so you probably couldn't afford me anyway)... providing the project appeals to me. If its that interesting I may even be tempted to negotiate.
Though I don't do weddings, studio work, portraits, or other boring stuff. But I could probably be enticed to do the odd portfolio shot for some unbelievably nubile scantily-clad nymph... given half a chance! (And providing she's over 18 of course). And before you ask, no, I don't shoot porn. Erotic maybe, tasteful certainly, but porn? No way!
What I really tend to specialise in is being completely confused, getting lost, and screwing things up. When I'm not breaking or losing things... usually my kit. And let's not forget the absent-mindedness. Let's definitely not forget that. I've also been known to be quite offensive occasionally, surprising as that may be.
So why anyone would consider commissioning me is totally beyond my comprehension. Unless they happen to like my style of doing things, or my approach or something. In which case they're probably crazy.
Sometimes I can be persuaded to write stuff as well... for a price! (Not that I'm totally mercenary. In fact, in reality, I'm almost exactly the opposite. Hmm)
